If you choose the computer, you can then scan the image or document into an email, a file or multiple applications including Photoshop, Office programs, Notepad, Paint, etc. Users have the option to scan photos (including multiple images at once), documents as text file or PDF or scan either directly into an email.ĭespite the one line display, the Interpret gives users many scan options, including scanning to your computer, USB drive or memory card. The software is also used with the Lexmark Prestige and is similar to what I’ve seen from other inkjet manufacturers. The Lexmark printer Home is also how users access the scan software and scan-to features, as well as maintenance, support, printer settings and fax settings. It will pull up all supported files on the memory card and then users can select which photos/files they want to transfer to the PC and subsequently print. This feature is found at the Lexmark printer home under the extras tab. However, Lexmark does make up for the flaw slightly with the memory card transfer. When it comes to scanning a document or faxing a memo, it’s not a big deal but using the photo capture and memory card reader was more difficult without being able to see the photos before printing. The biggest issue when it comes to ease of use on the Interpret is the one line display on the control panel.
The Interpret is a budget-friendly model in Lexmark’s professional inkjet series so it lacks many useful features I fell in love with on the Prestige, a higher-end model. Users will receive both a confirmation on their PC and through the Wi-Fi indicator on the Interpret when the wireless is connected. Then I plugged in our WEP key, hit enter and the printer and installation wizard did the rest of the work. The wizard searched for all available wireless networks and I chose our network. I set up the Interpret over our wireless network and it was fairly simple. The final step is deciding how the Interpret is going to be connected users can either set up the printer over a standard USB connection with the provided USB cable or over a wireless network. Once the software has been updated, the installation wizard guides users through the basic steps: load paper, connect to power, install print head, install ink, align print head, set up fax number, etc. Lexmark also offers an automatic software check to make sure users install the most current product offered for the Interpret. Selected software include: Lexmark Fax Solutions, Lexmark Tools for Office (for Microsoft Office users) and ABBYY FineReader Sprint 6.0. I chose to install everything Lexmark offered with the Interpret except the browser toolbar I just really hate toolbars, nothing against Lexmark’s. The CD starts off with a welcome screen, license agreement and software selection.
